Alcaraz Achieved ‘Most Difficult Thing In Tennis’ This Year Says Mouratoglou

Following an incredible season marked with Grand Slam championship victories at the Australian Open and the French Open, Jannik Sinner emerged as the fastest player to formally affirm he will finish as the year-end No. 1.

Alcaraz is the only man in 2024 who regularly beats Sinner. He has defeated his opponent in an exciting China Open final, therefore triumphing three straight over the Italian.

By defeating Alcaraz in the Six Kings Slam final held in Saudi Arabia, Sinner ended that losing run. That brought him the biggest salary ever—$6 million—but Sinner stated later on he does not play for money.

Although defeating Alcaraz will have increased his confidence, the Six Kings Slam match does not count in their ATP head-to-head since it took place at an exhibition. Therefore, the Spaniard’s three-match winning run over Sinner is still officially running.

Although it is amazing to beat someone as excellent as Sinner three times in a succession, Mouratoglou does not believe that is the finest accomplishment of the 21-year-old in 2024.

After defeating Novak Djokovic for the second consecutive year, this time more comfortably in straight sets, Alcaraz won his first French Open title before capturing a second Wimbledon crown a few weeks later.

Mouratoglou highlighted the various talents required on clay and grass and explained to Tennis365 why he thinks winning the French Open and Wimbledon in the same season is the toughest thing to do in tennis.

The French coach says Alcaraz was mentally drained after losing the Olympic gold medal match against Djokovic shortly after winning the French Open and Wimbledon, believing that contributed to his performance lowering before and during the US Open.
