Celtic read out final David Strelec transfer rules as in-demand striker will smash all-time transfer record

Celtic Faces Record-Breaking Transfer Fee for David Strelec

As the winter transfer window nears its end, Celtic is intensifying its search for a new striker, with David Strelec emerging as a key target. The club is eager to strengthen its attacking lineup following Kyogo Furuhashi’s departure to Stade Rennes for £10 million. Currently, Adam Idah is the only established first-team striker consistently leading the line, while Johnny Kenny has made just one appearance since returning from his loan spell at Shamrock Rovers.

Slovan Bratislava’s general director, Ivan Kmotrík, has made it clear that any deal for Strelec will require breaking the Slovakian transfer record. The 23-year-old forward has attracted significant interest, but Bratislava is reluctant to part with him mid-season. Kmotrík indicated that the club would prefer to negotiate a transfer in the summer when they expect even more competition for his signature. He acknowledged the growing number of offers but stated that major deals are typically finalized in the off-season rather than during the winter window.

Celtic’s pursuit of Strelec comes as they shift focus away from other potential signings. The club has reportedly ended their interest in Brøndby’s Mathias Kvistgaarden, while Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho appears to be heading to Middlesbrough from Sevilla. Meanwhile, young prospect Daniel Cummings, who recently made his first-team debut in Celtic’s Champions League clash against Aston Villa, is on the verge of a move to West Ham United. With his contract nearing its end, the Hammers have submitted a £500,000 bid to secure the promising striker ahead of schedule.

If Celtic decides to push for Strelec, they will have to break the previous Slovakian transfer record, set in 2020 when Andraž Šporar moved to Sporting CP for £5 million. Current estimates value Strelec at around £8 million, reflecting his growing reputation and potential. Despite this hefty price tag, Celtic may still face competition from other clubs, particularly in the summer when the transfer market heats up.

With the deadline fast approaching, Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic board must make a swift decision. Bringing in a reliable striker remains a top priority, and whether they meet Slovan Bratislava’s demands or explore alternative options will determine how well-prepared the team is for the remainder of the season.
