Family Demands Answers in Fatal Shooting of 13-Year-Old Florence Boy
FLORENCE, Ala. — The family of 13-year-old Ryland Calvert is calling for justice and transparency as the investigation into his fatal shooting continues with no arrests made more than two months after the incident.
Ryland was shot and killed on March 26 at the Hermitage Apartments in Florence. Since then, his family says they have received few answers about what happened that day.
John Calvert, Ryland’s father, said the family is still waiting for autopsy results to learn where and how his son was shot. He also expressed frustration over the lack of an arrest, despite knowing the identity of the alleged shooter.
“I’m not against law enforcement, but we deserve to know what happened to our son,” Calvert said. “We want transparency. We want justice.”
Authorities have not publicly identified the person involved in the shooting, though the Calvert family claims they’ve been told the suspected shooter is a man from Sheffield. No charges have been filed, and police have not provided an update on the investigation’s progress.
The tragedy has shaken the Hermitage Apartments community and raised questions about how such a case involving a child has remained unresolved.
The Calvert family continues to push for accountability and is urging law enforcement to act swiftly.
This is a developing story.
