Sinner Responds To Djokovic’s Withdrawal From 2024 ATP Finals

Although Jannik Sinner is disappointed that Novak Djokovic will not be attending the 2024 ATP Finals in Turin, he is optimistic that the competition will still be fantastic.

The first man to earn a spot in the ATP Finals was Sinner, ranked #1 in the world. Soon after, he became the fastest player since Djokovic’s stellar 2015 season to finish the year at the top of the rankings.

The ATP Finals this year will start on November 10th, and the tournament draw has already been announced. Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, and Daniil Medvedev are members of Sinner’s group.

Djokovic was almost ready to make it to the ATP Finals. He started the race this week at number six, and if he had planned to compete, only an unlikely sequence of outcomes would have prevented him from securing his spot in Turin.

Djokovic, however, declared that he will not be competing in the ATP Finals due to an injury. The Serbian did not provide further details on the physical problem, which could be related to the knee injury he has been dealing with since the French Open.

It is impossible to be certain, but Djokovic might have decided not to compete. Prioritizing the four Grand Slams and representing Serbia, the 37-year-old previously hinted that he might be done competing in events like the ATP Finals.

Djokovic’s withdrawal is definitely a setback. In addition to winning the competition last year, he is the most successful player in the history of the ATP Finals with seven titles.

However, his absence does not lessen the excitement of the lineup. With four Grand Slams between them, Alcaraz and Sinner have been the two standout players this season.

Speaking at a Lavazza event prior to the ATP Finals, Sinner reiterated the message. The 23-year-old acknowledged that Djokovic will be missed, but he also thought the draw included eight excellent players.

Sinner’s stellar season, which saw him finish the year as the No. 1 seed, has given him the right to be regarded as the favorite for the 2024 ATP Finals. Throughout his career, the Italian has won multiple titles at indoor events, demonstrating his skill as an indoor player.

At the ATP Finals last year, the world No. 1 finished second to Djokovic. Although Carlos Alcaraz has defeated Sinner the most this year, it is doubtful if he will be the most likely opponent to cause Sinner any problems at the ATP Finals given his difficulties in indoor competitions.

Alcaraz most recently lamented the fast conditions after losing at the Paris Masters. Rennae Stubbs, however, brushed his remarks off and advised him to modify his style for faster courts.
