Jimmy Arias, a former US Open semifinalist, believes that if ATP star Alexander Zverev can overcome the challenge of earning his first major title, he may win four or five Grand Slam titles.
After winning the Paris Masters, Zverev is in excellent form going into the ATP Finals, which begin on Sunday. In the final, he defeated Ugo Humbert 6-2, 6-2 thanks to an incredible effort.
With his victory, he also moved up to the second spot in the rankings, surpassing Carlos Alcaraz. Zverev still thinks Alcaraz and Sinner, the top-ranked player in the world, are superior to him, though, as they shared the four Grand Slams this year.
The German acknowledges that he is already considering and working on a strategy to raise his level of play for the Australian Open starting in January. That’s why, not long after defeating Humbert, Zverev hit the practice courts.
In order to improve his chances of facing Alcaraz and Sinner on the biggest stages, he practices after games to focus on the aspects of his game that he believes they perform better than him.
Zverev has won an Olympic gold medal at the Paris Olympics, seven ATP Masters 1000 events, and two ATP Finals championships. No one can declare his career a failure, regardless of how it turns out.
Zverev has failed to accomplish two noteworthy goals: becoming the world No. 1 and winning a Grand Slam championship. The 27-year-old lost to Dominic Thiem in five sets in the 2020 US Open and to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets at the Roland Garros finals in 2024.
Danielle Collins, who recently talked about how her decision to not retire at the end of this season was bittersweet, has been mentored by Arias, the Director of Tennis at IMG Academies.
