Ugo Humbert stuns Carlos Alcaraz at Paris Masters

The Rolex Paris Masters Round of 16 saw No. 15 seed Ugo Humbert excite his fans back home in France by defeating No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz of Spain 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 on Thursday.

Humbert cruised to a first-set victory after winning the first five games of the match, but Alcaraz rallied in the second set, breaking a 2-2 tie to advance and draw the match.

Until the 12th game, when Alcaraz faced double match point and saved one, both players maintained serve during the third set.

During the two-hour, sixteen-minute match, both players made 38 unforced errors, and Humbert ended up winning 26–23. Jordan Thompson of Australia, who defeated French wild card Adrian Mannarino 7-5, 7-6 (5), will be Humbert’s next opponent.

Despite winning 38 of 46 points (82.6 percent) on his first serve, Alcaraz was defeated. Despite winning the Grand Slam four times, Alcaraz has never advanced past the quarterfinals in his four Paris Masters outings.
