Lecce’s technical director, Pantaleo Corvino, has categorically denied any chance of Patrick Dorgu leaving the club during the January transfer window, despite ongoing rumors linking the talented defender to Manchester United. United, keen to bolster their left-back options, reportedly have their sights set on Dorgu as a potential signing either in the winter or summer window.
Since joining Lecce in 2022 from Nordsjaelland’s youth academy, Dorgu has been a standout performer in Serie A, amassing 43 league appearances over two seasons. His consistent performances and rapid development have solidified his reputation as one of the league’s most promising young defenders. Recently, the 20-year-old earned his first competitive caps for Denmark’s senior national team, further showcasing his talent on the international stage.
One of Dorgu’s defining qualities is his versatility. While primarily a left-back, he has also demonstrated his ability to play as a wing-back on either flank or even in advanced attacking roles. This season, Lecce has utilized him primarily as a right-winger, a role in which he has excelled, scoring three goals in 13 league matches. Such adaptability makes him an attractive prospect for top clubs across Europe.
Despite reports suggesting Manchester United might table a €35 million bid for Dorgu in January, Corvino has firmly stated that the player will remain at Lecce until at least the summer. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Corvino praised Dorgu, calling him a “champion” with an unmatched work ethic and immense potential. “Dorgu is already a champion. He runs like three men, sees the goal, and has an engine no one else can match. Naturally, he has many admirers abroad. But he will stay here for now, and we’ll revisit his future in the summer,” Corvino asserted.
Manchester United isn’t the only club interested in Dorgu’s signature. European giants like Napoli, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Inter Milan are also reportedly keeping tabs on him. For now, however, Lecce is determined to hold on to their star player, knowing that the summer transfer window may bring a bidding war for the Danish prodigy.
