Beau Webster Joins Warwickshire for 2025 Season Ahead of WTC Final
Australian allrounder Beau Webster has set his sights on the World Test Championship (WTC) final by signing a three-month contract with Warwickshire for the 2025 season. His stint will span both the County Championship and the T20 Blast, providing him with valuable match practice ahead of the highly anticipated final against South Africa at Lord’s in June.
Webster has been riding high after an impressive Test debut earlier this month, where he scored 96 runs, including a vital half-century in the first innings, helping Australia secure a 3-1 series victory over India. His strong performance not only cemented Australia’s spot in the WTC final but also earned him a place on the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. With this Warwickshire deal, Webster is further solidifying his preparation for what could be a defining moment in his career.
The agreement with Warwickshire will run from May to July 2025, during which Webster is expected to contribute to both formats. However, should he be selected for Australia’s WTC final squad, as anticipated, he may miss several T20 Blast matches due to the final being scheduled for June 11-15. His role in Australia’s XI for the final could depend on the fitness of fellow allrounder Cameron Green, who has been sidelined with a back injury since September.
Webster’s move is part of a broader trend among Australian players not involved in the IPL or PSL, who are using county cricket to fine-tune their skills ahead of major international fixtures. South African cricketers David Bedingham (Durham) and Kyle Verreynne (Nottinghamshire) have also signed county contracts in preparation for the WTC final, showcasing the competition’s importance as a training ground for elite players.
This isn’t Webster’s first experience with county cricket. In 2023, he joined Essex after initially playing club cricket in the UK. He then had a successful run with Gloucestershire in 2024, contributing significantly to their T20 Blast campaign. Reflecting on his new role, Webster expressed excitement about reuniting with familiar surroundings and embracing the challenges ahead. Warwickshire’s head coach, Mark Robinson, hailed Webster’s addition, noting his versatility and the balance he brings to both formats of the game.
With the WTC final looming, all eyes will be on Webster as he navigates this crucial phase of his career, blending domestic and international cricket to deliver on the world stage.
