Bicycle Chase Ends in Arrest and Jail Sentence for Drug Dealer
A 22-year-old drug dealer, Justice Oyedokun, has been sentenced to eight months in prison after an unusual police chase involving a discarded bicycle led to his arrest. The incident unfolded in Greenwich, south-east London, when officers stopped Oyedokun on Romney Road on December 9, 2023. Attempting to evade capture, he fled the scene, leaving his bike behind.
In a swift response, Sergeant Alan Cooley commandeered the abandoned bicycle and pursued Oyedokun. The quick-thinking officer managed to catch up with him within minutes, leading to his arrest. During the process, police discovered a quantity of cannabis in Oyedokun’s possession, which he had attempted to conceal.
Following his arrest, Oyedokun was charged with possession with intent to supply a Class B drug. On January 20, 2025, he appeared in court and pleaded guilty to the charges. This admission of guilt resulted in his eight-month jail sentence.
The case highlights the resourcefulness of law enforcement officers and their determination to tackle drug-related crimes. Sgt Cooley’s quick decision to use the suspect’s own bicycle turned a potentially prolonged chase into a swift and successful apprehension.
Justice Oyedokun’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the legal consequences of drug offenses and the vigilance of police in ensuring public safety. This incident further demonstrates the importance of adaptability and ingenuity in law enforcement, even in unconventional situations.
